Design for All Italia was founded in 1994 as the Italian Institute for Design and Disability to promote, disseminate and communicate in society the theory and practice of “Design for All” as a tool for the enhancement of diversity, equality and social inclusion, contributing to the general improvement of living conditions, individual, collective and environmental.
Designing Design for All means conceiving environments, systems, products and services usable independently by people with diverse needs and abilities by involving human diversity in the design process.
DfA solutions can be used easily, comfortably, and attractively by most users without having to make modifications to accommodate different physical, sensory, or cognitive abilities, and without having to sacrifice attractive design.
Legnolandia, thanks to more than 30 years of experience in designing and building playgrounds, is familiar with the “barriers” that block access to activities for children with disabilities. Since 2012, together with Laboratorio 0246 and the University of Verona, Legnolandia has perfected a full range of inclusive equipment, following European guidelines, in dialogue with families, designers and organizations.
The goal is to design and build products suitable for everyone, trying not to look only at disability but rather at what children are able to do with their possibilities, without special adaptations, without special designs. Many people in fact hold a level of small or medium disability that does not require radical design such as that for wheelchair users. Thus, the difference between an inclusive park and play for the disabled lies in the design, which is designed to allow children to have fun together, without barriers or divisions.
Inclusive play in Italy. There is no reference legislation applicable to play equipment, initiatives are undertaken by public or private administrations sensitive to the problem. The issue is being studied by CEN (European Committee for Standardization) and FEPI (Federation European Play Industry) of which Legnolandia is an active member. Read more…
For this recognition, Legnolandia was singled out and selected by a commission initially coordinated by Prof. Luigi Bandini Buti and later by Dr. Francesco Rodighiero (Design for All Quality Mark Manager). The commission also included Dr. Claudio Bocci (Director of Federculture), Lawyer Massimiliano Dona (President of the National Consumers Union) and Dr. Rodrigo Rodriguez (President of Materialiconnexion). The award was presented by the President of Design for All Italia, Prof. Giuseppe Di Bucchianico.
The production of “Legnolandia” has many virtuous aspects:
